What is your role at Northern Switchgear?

Business Development Manager

What is your career background and how did you come to work at NSG?

I have gained 25 years’ experience in Automation and Power, working with the likes of ABB, Siemens and Schneider. I have been responsible for MV sales in the South East, worked with Consultants on projects, have been responsible for End Users in the Datacentre segment and developed “go to market” strategies for several manufacturers in the UK. Having recently relocated to the North East, I felt it was time for a new challenge and knowing the team at Northern Switchgear it was a natural choice.

Tell us a bit more about what you do in your spare time by describing your perfect day off…

A few years ago I became a Civilian Instructor in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and enjoy working with these young adults and seeing them reach new levels and fulfilling their potential. I enjoy the outdoors and love walking my slightly deranged and dysfunctional dog. My perfect day would be a great country walk with my family with a stop off for a good lunch and a couple of drinks.

Where would you most like to travel to and why?

My bucket list for travel would have to include Vietnam, Cambodia and Sumatra. I love exploring the past and both Vietnam and Cambodia are steeped in Modern and Ancient History. As for Sumatra, I simply want to see Orangutans in the wild, where they belong.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be an engineer as a child and as soon as I achieved this I quickly changed my direction to professional technical sales and have never looked back.

What do you enjoy most about working at Northern Switchgear?

The best thing about any workplace is the people and at Northern Switchgear the team are friendly, professional, and most importantly, conscientious (with just the tiniest hint of insanity).
